# A redesigned mark for Ben Davis

Ben Davis builds software in San Francisco and co-hosts the Nerd Snipe podcast. In July 2026 I redrew his personal mark for my own practice, posted it on [X](https://x.com/gilrdb/status/2074468837781639301), and sent it to him.

### Two letters, one figure

The mark on [davis7.sh](https://www.davis7.sh/) already used the same two letters. It sets a slab-sided d against a b built from a full circle, so the two halves never agree on a weight or a curve.

A d and a b are mirror images, so the pair already wants to be symmetrical. I kept that symmetry in the bowls and broke it once. A single diagonal runs through the middle of the mark, carries the stem of the d down into the bowl of the b, and leaves both letters with a sheared terminal. At a glance it is a loop, and the initials arrive a moment later.

Stems and bowls hold one weight and one corner radius, so the mark keeps its rhythm when it shrinks. The whole thing is one path with few enough anchor points to redraw by hand, which is what the point view on the left shows.
